Contained Freedom (Openness)

Wooden Lantern (2017)

From Concept to Craft

Paying attention to the concept of transparency regarding one’s self, the idea of “contained freedom” comes to mind, whereby we are free to express ourselves if desired, yet are also restricted by society’s judgement and dictation of acceptable norms. Oftentimes, however, we are also confined by our own fears of societal discrimination. Openness hence becomes too imprisoning.
